COVID-19 has had an unprecedented and overwhelming effect on communities worldwide. Along with serious concerns about physical health, the disease also presents an alarming threat to mental health and well-being, particularly for those who work in healthcare.

The immense stress and range of emotions associated with providing care — or having to suspend care — during the pandemic can take a severe short-term toll on emotional well-being, lead to long-term burnout, and cause adverse outcomes for providers and patients.
